Natalie’s Breast Cancer Journey: How My Breast Years Ahead (MBYA) Sisterhood Helped Her Reclaim Her Power

Natalie is sharing about her breast cancer journey and sisterhood

When Natalie, heard the words “Stage 3, triple negative breast cancer,” her entire world seemed to crumble. Fear and uncertainty weighed heavy on her heart. But in the midst of it all, a friend introduced her to My Breast Years Ahead (MBYA) and My Style Matters — and that’s when she discovered a sisterhood she never saw coming, one that refused to let her face this journey alone.

This sisterhood is truly a sisterhood that makes you know that we’re all in this together, that NO SISTA WALKS THIS JOURNEY ALONE” – Natalie

Finding Hope & Community: My Breast Years Ahead (MBYA)

From the moment Natalie joined My Breast Years Ahead (MBYA) – a sisterhood created by Tiah Tomlin-Harris, My Style Matters, CEO and co-founder – she felt a wave of relief. Finally, she had found her tribe who understood her highs and lows without judgment. For Natalie, MBYA became:

  • A True Sisterhood
She could talk about treatment side effects, emotional struggles, or her daily triumphs, and every time, there was a sister ready to listen and uplift. It was like a virtual family reunion, where everyone’s pulling for each other.
  • Shared Struggles, Shared Victories
Through MBYA, Natalie realized she wasn’t the only one feeling scared or overwhelmed. These women had walked that path, too. Knowing she wasn’t alone gave her the mental and emotional strength to keep fighting.

My Style Matters: A Community – Supportive and Hopeful

Because of the My Breast Years Ahead sistahood where she was a part of, Natalie learned about this makeover event for cancer warriors—a transformative opportunity she almost skipped.

“I wasn’t really interested in participating. I’m not a big ‘makeover’ person and I don’t wear wigs. But something said, ‘Go…and I’m so glad I did.”

— Natalie

Rediscovering Her Beauty

We understand how chemotherapy can drain your energy and shake your confidence. But this makeover showed Natalie she could still feel beautiful in her own skin—no wigs or heavy makeup necessary. A reminder that cancer doesn’t define who she is.

Building a Lasting Sisterhood

That day, Natalie bonded with three other survivors who truly understood her journey. Their connection deepened, proving that sharing experiences and celebrating little victories can spark deep, unbreakable bonds.

Restoring Hope

More than hair or makeup, this makeover was about the heart. Natalie calls it a blessing—she saw herself in a new light and felt genuinely supported right when she needed it most.

“My Style Matters is a community—supportive and hopeful.”

Natalie appreciates how My Style Matters creates programs and events that welcome everyone, ensuring ‘No sista walks this (cancer) journey alone’. It’s that level of care and intentionality that makes this sisterhood thrive, reminding us all that we are stronger when we rise together.
