My Style Matters in Action: Educating & Empowering at Black Health Matters 2025 Health Summit & Expo

On February 22, My Style Matters joined our community partner, Black Health Matters, for their 2025 Health Summit & Expo in Atlanta. This event wasn’t just about sharing information—it was about real conversations, building connections, and empowering our community with lifesaving knowledge about breast health.

Why Talking About Breast Health With Loved Ones Matters

Too often, we suffer in silence, ignoring symptoms or dismissing concerns out of fear or uncertainty. But our health isn’t just our business—it’s our community’s business. That’s why we need to speak up, lean on our loved ones, and make sure they know how to support us.

Our founder, Tiah Tomlin-Harris, had an important conversation with a married couple, showing them how husbands can play a role in breast health. From checking for lumps to reminding their wives to get screenings, men can—and should—be a part of the fight against breast can’tcer.

A second set of eyes (and hands!) can help with early detection.

Having open conversations about health builds support and accountability.

Encouragement from loved ones can make the difference between delaying a checkup and catching something early.

Meanwhile, our volunteers was in action—teaching women how to properly check their breasts and understand the importance of early detection.

We watched women go from uncertainty to confidence, realizing that a simple self-exam could one day save their lives. That’s the power of education, and that’s why we show up.

The Impact of Our Work: What This Means for Our Community

  • More women now know how to perform self-breast exams—and they’re empowered to do it regularly.
  • Couples learned how to be proactive together, supporting each other through health conversations.
  • Women who had never prioritized screenings committed to scheduling one.
  • Sistahs felt seen, supported, and reminded that they are never alone in this fight.

This is what community outreach is all about—not just spreading awareness, but inspiring action.
