Featured on GMA: A Tragedy to Triumph Story of Breast Cancer Survivor Tiah Tomlin-Harris and Her Life Changing Mission
My Style Matter‘s founder Tiah Tomlin-Harris shared why she decided to be an instrument of hope for Black women suffering with Breast Cancer after she ‘kicked can’tcer’ twice.
On October 22, Tiah was featured on Good Morning America as a guest for their ‘Faces of Breast Cancer’ series where she shared her breast cancer journey and its impact on her life.
At just 38 years old, her life took a turn when she discovered a lump on her chest while doing a routine self-breast exam. She had to face eight sessions of chemotherapy, surgery, and six weeks of radiation for her life. Tiah won against breast cancer and was declared in remission in 2015.
Four years later, she was then again back to battling cancer after being diagnosed with a more aggressive breast cancer.
The My Style Matters founder may have faced setbacks in her health journey but that did not break her spirit. She changed her diet and lifestyle. In 2021, she was once again in remission and things are looking better for her. She’s healthier, happier, and just got married!
Tiah shared that she was still in treatment, she found it hard to look for a support group for young and Black women suffering from breast cancer.
“My Style Matters came about when I was going into treatment I started to go to support groups and recognized there weren’t anyone that look like me. No young women, I know we existed but where were we? I didn’t see Black women,” Tiah said. This experience opened the door for Tiah to finally realize her calling.
Tiah started by forming a support group called ‘My Breast Years Ahead‘. It now has almost 700 members and then gave life to My Style Matters.
All of their programs aim to give its receivers healthier yet accessible options to make their cancer journey easier.
My Style Matters have “Kick Can’tcer ” and “Saf-HER Beauty” care packs. These are non-toxic and healthier personal care and household items that are mostly given to low-income beneficiaries.
They also have “Food To Fight” boxes that offer healthier produce, and “Food For Life” that is about plant-based nutrition.
Tiah Tomlin-Harris’ My Style Matters also teaches Black teens about their breast health by its “Breast Health Matters” program.
